How to Choose Your Wedding Bouquet

Planning your wedding can be exciting, exhilarating and yet overwhelming. There’s so many things to think about and plan for in a wedding. For one thing, there are the flowers. So where do you start?

Well, the first thing that you need to do is to sit down and plan a budget on what you want to spend on your flowers. This is important because having a budget will help you choose what type of flowers you’ll be using. A budget will also help you to decide on the size of your bouquet and plan your wedding-party’s flowers. Plus, you may want to choose centerpieces and flowers for the ceremony which can be later used at the reception as a budget saver.

If you go the latter route, ask around among your friends and family of the recently married and see who they recommend. Now this is important, call the florist you’ve picked as soon as possible and book the date of your wedding. Once you have chosen your florist, now the actual fun begins! This where you start browsing through magazines, Pinterest, and photos and finding bouquets and arrangements that you like and collecting them. Look at shapes, sizes, colors plus also consider whether you want scented or unscented flowers in your bouquet. So, if you see a flower or flowers that catch your eye, find out what the names are of the flowers and if it’s in flower during your wedding season. Additionally, gather material swatches of your colors for your floral designer to match. You can even use paint chips of the colors, or pieces of ribbon. Anything that will help your floral designer see your vision.

When picking your bouquet, they don’t have to exactly match your color scheme either. They can complement it. You can use accent colors that match other parts of your wedding décor, including the favors or even the wedding invitations. If you do want to match everything though, then you’ll need something of the right color to show your florist. For example, there’s a pinkish mauve and a purplish mauve. So just saying that you want mauve won’t guarantee that you’ll get the mauve color that you want.

Finally, you want your bouquet to complement the style of your wedding. For instance, if you’re having a more informal wedding then a large formal bouquet wouldn’t look right. The same example in the opposite way would be if you were having a formal wedding, then a free-flowing bouquet would look out of place. Also, listen to the input of your floral designer.
