Floral backdrops have become quite popular, which is why I am sharing this fun Carnation backdrop tutorial from A Practical Wedding. Carnations are the ideal flowers to use for this project because they are relatively small, long-lasting, and come in a variety of colors. Of course, you can use other flowers too like daisies, roses and other beautiful blooms. This beautiful backdrop is easy to make and won’t break your budget!
What You’ll Need:
- Carnations
- Scissors
- Fishing Line
- Embroidery Needle
- Something to hang it from (they use a wedding arch but another popular choice is a stick)
How-to Steps:
- Cut the stems off of your carnations and separate the blooms into groups of about 15
- Measure the fishing line slightly longer than you think you’ll need— this excess line allows for room when you hang it up and to tie knots to secure the flowers in place. Push your needle through the stem of the carnation, and out through the center of the flower. Then tie a knot on the other side of the carnation to fix it on the line.
- The formation of every strand should be: Line—knot—carnation—knot—line
- Hang strands from desired location. For most average sized backdrops I suggest around 15 lines of flowers or more!
